Wrapped Ether (WETH) is a token representing Ether (ETH) on Ethereum. It exists because ETH was created before the ERC-20 token standard and is not compatible with it, ETH can therefore not be used to interact with other tokens and dapps like decentralized exchanges. The solution was to create WETH, which is an ERC-20 token obtained by locking ETH in a smart contract.
