The BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain launched in 2020 by Binance to kickstart its own ecosystem of decentralized finance (DeFi) apps. Originally called Binance Smart Chain, it was renamed in 2022 when it was merged with Binance Chain, Binance's previous attempt to launch a decentralized network that failed due a lack of scalability and compatibility with the Ethereum ecosystem.
Founded in China in July 2017 by Changpeng Zhao (CZ), Binance is today the largest centralized crypto trading platform in the world.
BEP-20 is the token standard on BNB Chain, which is based on Ethereum's ERC-20 standard.

The price of BNB refers to a global price that is calculated by making a volume-weighted average of its real-time price on many different exchange platforms where it is traded, such as Binance, Bybit, OKX, Coinbase, Kraken, etc.
